Thank you so much. Yours was the first comment that I saw. I was getting so frustrated because I was gonna trace the whole image with the pen tool 😂

I'll add to that to set up a custom keystroke for select same fill as well as select same stroke if you use them very much. Edit > Keyboard Shortcuts

After image tracing the object, select the object and on the top bar there is a button that says expand. Then on the left, select the magic wand and click on the white. The delete.
An alternative to next time is to go to windows-image trace~ advanced~ select ignore white area. It will image trace leaving out the white sections.

select ignore white area.
The problem with that is it still creates shapes where the white was, only they're not filled.

I don't use Illustrator frequently but can you not make a selection with color range and then delete it? It'll leave you with a transparent background

Did anyone already suggest clicking the image>opacity>multiply? From my understanding that should also reduce if not eliminate white

There's an image trace option that says forget white. And you could do "select>similar>same color" I think and select white and remove it that way

I used image trace a photo of a tree and want to put it into a piece I'm working on. I'm stuck with a white background and I don't know how to get rid of it.

There should be a check box for "ignore white" on the image trace dialog, retrace it and check that box.

Ungroup image before selecting white
